Welcome to my web site; I have been designing golf courses in the Midwest (and some far-flung areas) since 1969, and this site is about these courses, my background and design philosophy. There is also a listing of courses I have designed or remodeled, don't think I missed any, but some have been renamed since they were rebuilt.
These days, I am limiting my work to consulting on existing courses and new projects.
Click here to see aerial photographs of some of my courses.
Ron Kern, my son, is a Golf Course Architect working out of his home town of Carmel, Indiana. Learn about Ron and check out the courses he's designed such as Purgatory Golf Club (which has been rated in the top 100 public access courses in the United States by Golf Digest Magazine) at his web site.
While rummaging around he other day, I found some old
articles about me:
Green Dreams - a feature article by Dave Dorr in the Sunday Magazine of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch
The Grill Room - an article by Gordon Wells in Golf World
No Place Like Home - an article by Gordon Wells in Golf World
Kerning The Course - an article in the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship program at Fox Run
In retirement mode, I am spending my time noodling around on the clarinet, which I started playing again in 2009 (see www.clarinut.net), and keep busy playing in two community bands. I also rediscovered what Jesus did for me on the cross, and spend time worshipping and studying in Bible classes. I talk a little about this on the clarinut site.
